Forgive!...yeah, that's it.

   When I was younger I always heard the elders say "You better forgive them so you can rest easy, because I guarantee you they already are!" A lot of times we find ourselves holding on to things whether they be big or small. Things or people that have hurt or disappointed us. Guess what, you are hurting you more than you are hurting them. It takes a ton of energy to hold on to things. I don't know about you, but I don't have much to spare, especially on trivial things. I know it also takes a lot of energy to forgive, but not continuous energy. Once you truly forgive, you are free.
   Everyone makes mistakes and everyone lets people down. Even you, and yes, even me. "Judge not lest ye be judged" Matthew 7 "For all have sinned and fell short of the glory of God" Romans 3:23. Yes, even you. Technically you telling that little lie to your mom, was no less than someone later telling you a big one. Bad is bad and good is good. We are not all of either of those things.
   What MLK Jr. is telling us is that  when we discover forgiveness we discover true love, peace, and understanding of others. When we can forgive it is because we understand that there are imperfections in all of us and we need not hold on to those things, the bad, and when we let them go, we can see the good in others, or our situation. Hate is something that eats away at you like salt to a slug. It swells you up and then you explode, you, are left in pieces, not the subject of your hate, you.
   The next time you feel the need to hold on to something, think about all of the wrong you have done, big or small, and you will see that nothing is worth holding onto, losing sleep, and being bitter over. Bitterness, you can have it, YUCK!
  Make a conscious effort forgive and see how your quality of life and peace improves.
